So hey. I know I've been slow as hell getting more space available for Lain.la, and that hosting article is a CHORE to read through and is full of caveats and "don't do this" statements and blah blah blah. So I am retiring it. It's going away. Everyone who has resources from me now - you can keep them forever. I will keep it all running for you. But new requests? Outside of ludicrous proposals that I'd be morbidly curious to fill (e.g. I need 128GB of RAM - for science!), nope. This offer is over. Here's why:
- Not giving people IPv4 addresses sucks.
- Not giving people direct access to port forwards/NAT/allocations sucks.
- Not giving people access to their VM outside of SSH sucks (VNC, reboot options, mounting ISOs, etc.).
- Having to MAN IN THE MIDDLE everyone's traffic out my Nginx proxies for websites sucks (no - I didn't sniff anyone's traffic. I promise)
- Cert renewal time is a chore with managing everyone else's TLS certs, and sucks.
- Me being SLOW about provisioning and changes sucks and it takes time away from my other, more impactful projects.
It's just not a good time for anyone. So with that in mind, I am offering, through a deal with the hosting company I now somewhat help run (nulled), free resources with real IPv4 addresses (and yes IPv6 soon) and all. No NAT. No routing. No port shenanigans. No Nginx. Way faster hardware. Real KVM virtualization. Just what you'd expect from an ACTUAL hosting provider. This makes everyone's lives easier, I promise.
You can email me with the following info to get started:
- Why you need a free VM (Are you broke? Are you working on a good cause? Are you maintaining an open source project and everyone's a jerk and doesn't donate so now you can't afford the bills?)
- What you plan to run on it (This is so I can determine the right level of resources to give away)
- How else I can help make whatever it is you are doing a success
Caveats:
- Service can still be revoked at any time, not that I or nulled ever expect to have to do so.
- No SLA. In fact, you're probably gonna be the new feature beta tester!
- Support is best effort. I'll do what I can from a consulting perspective but I can't hold your hand.
- Don't abuse the resources you're provided, especially around CPU or IOPS or network bandwidth. There are PAYING customers on these clusters. Please don't make them mad.
Since nulled is an actual company, your request will be categorized into a few buckets below. To each according to their need, etc etc.
- Subsidized hosting - We give you a fixed percentage off the list price for a VM (or other resources such as block storage when they are ready for deployment)
- Startup support - We give you X amount of months, free of charge, and then you pay full price or convert to subsidized hosting afterwards.
- Full support - If you're doing something really cool and you need firepower, we can entertain it being free of charge, forever. But it has to be good! I mean like "curing cancer" or "this open source project will kill some proprietary company's entire business model" good. Make your case and if we think you're the coolest guy in town, we'll open the taps.
If you are interested, email me at my usual address (7666 at lain.la). There will be a more formal process for this on the nulled side later, when more self-service infrastructure is built out.
